ALL THAT GLOWS, IS GOLD

Any of you who follow this blog (or any of my social media for that matter) consistently, will know I am no stranger to delicate, feminine jewelry. It is my jam. Like seriously, my current greatest (and longest lasting) obsession is in the realm of delicate fine jewelry - rings, necklaces, chokers, drop chains, earrings. If it can adorn an area of my body and can be made out of 14k gold, you know I want it, adore it, need it.

So imagine my unbearable contentment when I (re)discovered J.Hannah. Eponymous jewelry line of L.A. native and designer Jess Hannah, J.Hannah jewels are a minimalists dream. Crafted with the intention to never leave your body, her pieces ooze timelessness and class. Inspired by her grandmothers vintage jewelry, Hannah decided to craft all her collections with the simple minded intention to create objects that one could never leave their house without. Whether you are a ring-stacker, a chain-layerer, or an earlobe-adorner, her pieces are gorgeous. Her pieces are for you.

I have followed Jess Hannah on Instagram for as long as I can remember. Every since I first discovered her feed, I have been enamored with her simplistic, minimal, feminine style. Her ability to embrace and utilize light and shadow is pure perfection.

HAT'S ON

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would have such a strong respect and understanding for the Mad Hatter. As a kid, watching the Alice in Wonderland movies and reading the fantastical books of her underground adventures, I thought the Mad Hatter was just a quacky storybook creep, who happened to have no idea how to colour coordinate his stacks of hats. As fabulous as they were, I could never understand why someone would want to walk around wearing so many hats. Talk about a serious case of indecision. And also...neck cramps...with that many hats there's no way he didn't have back problems.

But regardless, I now understand him. I know why he did it. When there are hats that exist in this world that are so glorious you cannot fathom to choose just one favourite, no wonder he wore them all. You might ask, why am I only now coming to this realization? My answer: Janessa Leone.

The hats created and styled by eponymous label Janessa Leone are the most heavenly creations I think I have ever experienced in my entire life. From her fedoras to her boat hats; her straw hats and wide-brimmed sun visors, there is no head adorning accessory that she cannot do; and do beautifully. I never was an enthusiastic hat lover, not until a few years ago when I began to discover they actually looked good on me. Blame it on my newly mastered hair style or the fact that braces fixed the curvature of my jaw to the point where all hat styles are flattering, but now I can (and want to) wear pretty much any hat I set my sights on. Janessa Leone's masterpieces are at the top of the list, especially those included in the Spring Summer 2016 Collection.

So take a peek below at what I mean, and maybe you too will become a mad hatter just like me ;) but save your pennies, an expansive collection will cost you (when has that ever stopped anyone?).

Nothing left to say other than: Topshop knows what it's doing. Forever in love with everything about this fashion shoot. The feminine biker aesthetic, simple, natural hair and makeup, and it also not a typical white-washed fashion editorial - so loving the diversity in fashion we are seeing this month, and hopefully every month to come. <3

Hope everyone is having a good week, I am eyeballs deep in school work so you will not be getting a novel worth of text today, but hopefully these pretty images will suffice.

ALL CHOKED UP

I am not even going to waste both of our time trying to describe how unbelievably obsessed with this choker trend right now. When I was a kid and plastic chokers were a thing, I thought they were so incredibly horrendous, but as with many other things in my life, growing older has turned me into a ridiculous hypocrite when it comes to things I steadfastly believed during my childhood. One of which, being my now and what I believe to be my never ending love for chokers and choker like jewellery. So here, are some of the most beautiful images I could find of this wonderful trend as well as my introductory attempt at embracing the trend in my own wardrobe. The collection of chokers will continue!!!

So as you can see there is no shortage of inspiration for those of you who, like me, have become infatuated with this jewellery trend. Everyone from Free People, Urban Outfitters, BREAD & CIRCUS (who also happens to be a local Toronto brand I completely love and adore), Catbird (out of NYC...aka the motherland for all things minimalist and dainty) and many other jewellery companies. Bloggers such as Danielle Bernstein and basically everyone else is jumping on this trend, making it both easy to have millions of inspiring photos but also incredibly difficult to keep yourself from buying a new accessory every time you open up your Insta feed.

Anyways, hope you all have a great week!

CROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT

Amongst the many many trends currently spinning around the fashion-sphere, there are a few with whom I am quite obsessed. One of which is the unfinished hem, especially if it is also on a cropped pair of pants. I never used to be one for unfinished clothing items, I always felt it made the garment look incomplete or unprofessional...slightly frazzled if you will. So for someone who constantly lives her life in various severities of frazzled-ness I didn't exactly want my clothes screaming that I didn't have my life together as well. But over the past few months, the unfinished hem has become quite a big deal among fashion gals, and as someone who likes to believe she is a part of that crowd, the trend has grown on me.

That being said, as with everything else in my life, I am very particular about the forms within which my obsessions manifest themselves. For some reason I am loving the raw edges and frayed hems on pants but I have not been able to jump on board with them on jackets or shirts. Even skirts seem slightly odd to me with this type of hem, but again, there are always exceptions to the rule (errr, my rules..haha)

So without further adieu, here are some of the raw hem cropped pants I am loving, on some of my favourite fashion gals.

Not frayed, but both are cropped and extremely fabulous.
So as you can see the frayed hem and the cropped jean have become quite the match made in heaven in terms of this seasons go-to pant style. But even not as an "of the moment" thing, I feel like we will be seeing quite a bit more of this unfinished/uneven edge for a while, and if not, it'll at least be something totally cool to look back on. Not to mention it is one of the easiest and cheapest trend to jump on board with. All you really need is sandpaper or a cheese grater and some scissors and you can turn any old boring pair of pants, shorts or skirt, into a hot ticket wardrobe item that catapults you to the levels of style elite. (lol...one would hope)

Anyways hope you all enjoyed my round up of one of the winter weather trends I am currently loving. Let me know in the comments below what you think about this new trend, and what kinds of styles you are really embracing or dreaming of this season. Chat soon!

xoxo, Naomi

NEVER ENDING OBSESSION: LAYERING

9/5/2015

If there is one trend that I personally feel has and will continue to transcend all four seasons this year it is the art of layering one's jewelry. Whether it be carefully placed necklaces of varying lengths, sizes and metals, stacks of dainty gold and silver rings, or rows of sparkling studs aligning earlobes, this past summer season and taking us into fall the attempted layering of ones entire jewel collection on their body all at once has amassed the fashion world over. And to no surprise mind you. There is something extremely elegant about artfully placing necklaces, chokers and chains so as they drape down ones décolletage in the cracks of a flowing blouse, or even to add a little sparkle to a deep cut one piece maillot. Adorning every finger possible with gold, silver and rose-gold rings add an extra element of pizzaz to a freshly painted manicure, or a completely nude nail. Stabbing oneself (or hiring someone trained) in order to increase the surface area of one's ears confiscated by dainty or daring studs, hoops and bars has also allowed us fashion fanatics to express our artistic sensibilities in a realm beyond our clothing. Understated or dramatic, dainty or flamboyant, all the jewels of the season have been carefully selected, delivered and adorned to match our personal styles and to complement the clothing ensembles we already put way too much effort into.

But one thing is for certain: this trend does not end here. Currently our layered jewels complement our bronzy summer tans, but come autumn they will be popping like fireworks against dark ribbed turtlenecks or peeking out from underneath crisp blouses.

So take some pointers from the pendant pro herself Amanda Thomas from luvaj, find a jewelry store near you and go nuts because this trend ain't going nowhere anytime soon.
Picture
1. Mix metals: Don’t be scared of mixing metals! It helps to mix necklaces that have a similar thickness – I love pairing several thin chain necklaces in both gold and silver and then breaking up the look with a couple of thin solid metal collars.
Picture
2. Dainty, dainty, dainty: You can wear as many dainty charm necklaces as you want – I like to keep them separated about an inch apart. Here, I paired two charm necklaces with a thin body chain, which is tucked under a cropped top for more subtlety.
Picture
Picture
3. Long layers: Layering isn’t limited only to charm necklaces. Try pairing a long pendant necklace with a lariat and a short fringe bib necklace. Not only does each piece hit all the best points of the neck and chest, the entire look has a really effortless vibe.

4. Rings: basically just got nuts with this one. Take into account the type of work you do during the day and how much you use your hands. A stack of gorgeous trinkets aren't great if you're working outside or doing something very hands on but go with what you're comfortable with and what you feel makes a beautiful arrangement. Midi rings and thumb rings add extra dimension and allow you to spread out your stacks to all fingers (if you choose to do so). Make sure your stacks are balanced from finger to finger and hand to hand. But seriously....anything goes. :)

HOW TO BE PARISIAN

9/4/2015

Picture
There is an elusiveness about the Parisian woman that absolutely fascinates the North American fashion industry, and subsequently the consumers that partake in it. Their effortless beauty, their perceived ease as they stylishly tread through a life and their uncanny ability to not do anything with their hair and still have it looking perfect. They are the only group of women to make smoking look sexy (even though it's not), they can wear a crumpled t-shirt and jeans and still ensue double takes from both men and women alike. This elusiveness is what is currently entrancing the fashion industry as we shift from summer to fall, and we begin to calculate the looks, styles and beauty trends we will be worshipping this autumn. The popularity of #IWokeUpLikeThis caught the masses like a wildfire tearing through a forest, and there's a reason for it. We (for the most part) as a consumer culture are starting to realize that natural IS better, and no one knows that better than the Parisian woman; hence the fascination.

So take a peek at the images below and see for yourself what I mean. God damn, the Parisian's can even make baggy sweaters look good.

AUTUMN A LA COOL GIRL

8/28/2015

If there was any one vibe that encapsulated the over-arching aesthetic of the upcoming autumn season, it would be that of the infamous cool girl. Brand after brand continues to release their pre-fall collections, accompanied by well photographed, superbly directed lookbooks. But there have been some similarities I have noticed, true to every collection.

Of course the traditional colour palette for fall is very much alive given that we are now beginning to see camel brown, moss green, wine red, speckled grey, dark grey, cream white and of course black and navy blue, emerge from their dusty hiding places within our closets. Clean skinned models, clear complexions, rosy cheeks as if kissed by a crisp breeze (or smacked by a floating leaf depending on whether or not karma decides it hates you this season). Loosely done hair, messy buns sitting at the nape of necks, and deep coloured lips also begin to re-announce their presence in your beauty arsenal.

And not to mention LAYERS!!!!! If there is one thing and one thing only that all cool girls the world over have in common (but lets face it there's more than one commonality in this equation) it is how to layer...perfectly. Autumn has always been my favourite season, because I believe it to contain the perfect balance of crisp cool mornings, warm afternoons and windy, rainy evenings that allow for a thin turtleneck to be layered under a leather or suede deep V-neck dress with soft cashmere tights knee high boots and of course a leather jacket draped effortlessly over ones shoulders. I mean HOW HEAVENLY does that sound???!!! I can pretty much assure you all right now that the combination I just described above will be my go to this season, and if you know me personally....watch out.

This is the season of comfort, and no one ever said that to be fashionable one is required to be uncomfortable.

Now that my rant is over, take a peek at the images below as Objects Without Meaning c/o Lisa Says Gah via WhoWhatWear show us all a thing or two about how cool girls will be dressing this fall....and how you should too.
