If there was any one vibe that encapsulated the over-arching aesthetic of the upcoming autumn season, it would be that of the infamous cool girl. Brand after brand continues to release their pre-fall collections, accompanied by well photographed, superbly directed lookbooks. But there have been some similarities I have noticed, true to every collection.
Of course the traditional colour palette for fall is very much alive given that we are now beginning to see camel brown, moss green, wine red, speckled grey, dark grey, cream white and of course black and navy blue, emerge from their dusty hiding places within our closets. Clean skinned models, clear complexions, rosy cheeks as if kissed by a crisp breeze (or smacked by a floating leaf depending on whether or not karma decides it hates you this season). Loosely done hair, messy buns sitting at the nape of necks, and deep coloured lips also begin to re-announce their presence in your beauty arsenal.
And not to mention LAYERS!!!!! If there is one thing and one thing only that all cool girls the world over have in common (but lets face it there's more than one commonality in this equation) it is how to layer...perfectly. Autumn has always been my favourite season, because I believe it to contain the perfect balance of crisp cool mornings, warm afternoons and windy, rainy evenings that allow for a thin turtleneck to be layered under a leather or suede deep V-neck dress with soft cashmere tights knee high boots and of course a leather jacket draped effortlessly over ones shoulders. I mean HOW HEAVENLY does that sound???!!! I can pretty much assure you all right now that the combination I just described above will be my go to this season, and if you know me personally....watch out.
This is the season of comfort, and no one ever said that to be fashionable one is required to be uncomfortable.
Now that my rant is over, take a peek at the images below as Objects Without Meaning c/o Lisa Says Gah via WhoWhatWear show us all a thing or two about how cool girls will be dressing this fall....and how you should too.
